From dairy hut to dairy hut
Your hiking hotel in South Tyrol

One village, three valleys - hiking holidays in Racines

When three valleys meet, hikers rejoice! Discover the attractions of Racines and be enchanted by the South Tyrolean landscape surrounding our hiking hotel.

Short walks, hikes among the dairy huts, a wonderful panoramic tour on Monte Piatto: Val di Giovo alone offers endless hiking possibilities. But if you are on holiday here in Racines, you also have the Val Ridanna and Valle di Racines valleys at your fingertips! We hope you have lots of time, but if you want to shorten the route, take the cable car that will take you comfortably up to 1,800 metres above sea level. Cross the blooming alpine pastures to one of the countless dairy huts, refresh yourself with home-made grey cheese, fresh alpine butter and rye bread, and then return to our hotel.

Hiking in the valleys of South Tyrol

When it comes to organising a successful hiking holiday in the unspoilt nature of South Tyrol, we are YOUR hotel par excellence! For us, hiking is not only medicine but also inner cleansing. Exercise has always been a recipe for health and well-being. In addition to the body, all the senses are stimulated and, when you add our natural gourmet cuisine, an unforgettable experience is created. You will find numerous hiking trails on our Guestnet but as an amuse-bouche we have selected the four trails described below for you.

Burkhardklamm Gorge in Ridanna

Hiking in the midst of nature: the Burkhardklamm Gorge is located in Val Ridanna, in the village of Masseria, a 20-minute drive from the 4-star Rainer hiking hotel in Val di Giovo.

The starting point is the Mining Museum in Monteneve. After an easy 45-minute hike along trail No. 9, you reach the Burkhardklamm gorge, but the panoramic trail to the gorge itself has numerous attractions. Several vantage points offer extraordinary views of the alpine environment and when crossing the numerous bridges one can feel the power and natural beauty of the water. This unforgettable tour ends at the Aglsbodenalm dairy hut, which is perfect for stopping and resting.

Monte Cavallo in Vipiteno

This route is also easily accessible from our hiking hotel. It starts at the valley station of the lifts to the Monte Cavallo ski and hiking area, just a few steps from the centre of Vipiteno, or you can park for free directly at the station. The cable car will then take you up to 1,860 metres above sea level. Hikers, mountain bikers and paragliders will find plenty to do on Vipiteno's 'home mountain' - about 2,000 metres high - with its magnificent landscape and extraordinary panoramic views that allow to see as far as the Dolomites. Here you can breathe in the fresh mountain air, relax and enjoy your excursion to the full.

And as is typical for South Tyrol, the high plateau above Vipiteno offers true culinary delights in its numerous alpine huts and dairy huts. Whether it is the classic ‘canederli’ (bread dumplings), the hearty 'Rahmmus' (a traditional dish made with cream, flour and sweet or savoury filling) or the traditional apple strudel, at Monte Cavallo you can enjoy a variety of local dishes.

Cable car timetable: 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Monte Piatto in Val di Giovo

View the Racines and Giovo valleys from above. You can also start this panoramic hike directly from our hiking hotel! From here, the route leads to St. Anton, where an initially steep wood path takes you past the Gringer Wiese. The path then continues pleasantly uphill to below the Passo Giovo pass. Accompanied by breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys, you then descend again in the direction of Casalupa and finally return to the Naturhotel Rainer.

Stanghe Gorge near Stanghe, Racines

Sparkling white marble, with glittering green and dark grey streaks, among rock faces many metres high and roaring mountain water: this is the Stanghe Gorge, one of South Tyrol's best-loved and best-known natural wonders.

It is only 5.5 kilometres from our hiking hotel to the lower access to the gorge, right next to the Stanghe bridge. A fascinating spectacle awaits you in the gorge. The placid Racines torrent picks up speed with great descending force and at the bottom the water rises up in a mist. The hiking trail leads you 2.5 kilometres through the Stanghe gorge on stairs and suspension bridges, always surrounded by the impressive force of nature. You leave this special place in Racines, where the landscape suddenly changes to a quiet moss-covered plateau. The return is along path No. 13 to Pratone and then on to Stanghe.

Opening hours: beginning of May to beginning of November daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (July and August until 6 p.m.).

More energy through conscious breathing

We all do it... we all BREATHE. And precisely because it is so natural, we don't think about it. Unless we find ourselves in situations where we 'run out of air'.

This can happen in the true sense of the word while hiking, but also in stressful situations. Only then do we realise how vital breathing is and how we can calm ourselves through conscious breathing. At the Naturhotel Rainer, breathing, closely linked to exercise, is a vital principle. Regular exercise helps us to breathe deeply, thus enabling us to exercise more. It’s the cycle of nature. Conscious breathing gives us more concentration, energy and joie de vivre, because we transmit signals to our bodies that promote calmness instead of stress and frenzy.

So... relaxation, mountain air, hiking holidays at the Naturhotel Rainer!
