Grab your skis and go!

Have we already mentioned warm, dry ski boots? It is precisely this way that you will begin to experience the authentic, extraordinary South Tyrolean winter life. As a ski hotel, we will of course also offer you a free ski bus that will take you directly to the desired ski area. Everything is possible here, in and around Racines - cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, children's courses... - but take a look for yourself:

Cross-country skiing

Perfectly groomed trails, sparkling with snow, surrounded by the breathtaking mountains of South Tyrol: this is what you will find in Racines and at the biathlon centre of Ridnaun. More and more cross-country skiing enthusiasts, both beginners and professionals, treasure these nothing-short-of-ideal conditions in the midst of a snow-covered natural landscape. Would you like to explore the world of this healthy winter sport during your holiday? Professional cross-country ski instructors will teach you in just a few hours what you need to know to experience South Tyrol on skis. As a guest of the Ski Hotel Rainer, you will also receive special bracelets that will give you free access to cross-country skiing circuits in Val Ridanna and also in Racines.

Racines-Giovo skiing area

One of the most modern and 'snow-guaranteed' ski areas in South Tyrol, just 12 kilometres from our hotel! On site there are 28 kilometres of slopes, a half-pipe and a toboggan run. All this will guarantee you an interesting and varied winter holiday in South Tyrol.

From the valley station, you can take a convenient lift to the perfectly groomed slopes. On the sun terrace of the Rinner Alm, you can recharge your batteries for the next unforgettable descent through the winter wonderland.

Opening hours: daily from 8.30 a.m. to 4.15 p.m.

Skiland and ski kindergarten Racines

The Pingu-Skiland in the Racines ski area awaits our little skiers from 3 years old and up. Here, children can spend an exciting winter day under the supervision of qualified professionals. Skiing is learnt in a fun way together with other children during daily group courses, while parents can relax and enjoy carefree skiing fun.

Registration: directly at the Racines ski school (Tel. +39 0472 659131) via online booking.

Monte Cavallo in Vipiteno

On Vipiteno's sun terrace you can spend the days of your winter holiday as you see fit. Skiers have around 20 kilometres of slopes at their disposal, while you can happily lie down in front of one of the cozy mountain huts and breathe deeply while the warm winter sun caresses your face. For those who like a change, fantastic snowshoe hikes or energetic toboggan runs also start here.

How do you get to Monte Cavallo? Walking through the town of Vipiteno, in South Tyrol, you would probably never expect to reach the Monte Cavallo valley station in just 5 minutes on foot. This means that the station is only 7 kilometres from our ski hotel! The last stretch, from Vipiteno to the sun terrace can be covered by cable car. Now the winter fun can begin!

Hiking in glittering snow

Have you ever been on a snowshoe hike? The manager of our Naturhotel, Hans Rainer, will be happy to invite you! You start directly from the hotel and cross Val di Giovo beautifully dressed in winter. Destination: the surrounding dairy huts. After all, refreshment is a must. But our best secret tip is a snowshoe hike to Monte Piatto on the Passo Giovo! Hours and hours in the midst of unspoilt nature, pure mountain air and... tranquillity. You can find more itineraries in our blog.

…by the way: snowshoes and trekking poles can be hired from us.

More winter experiences in Racines

Ice skating

Are you experts in pirouettes or... still a bit clumsy? Ice skating is always a pleasure! In Racines and its surroundings there are numerous ice-skating rinks to choose from for hours of enjoyable winter fun.

Carriage ride

Wrapped in warm blankets, enjoy the winter landscape of South Tyrol on a horse-drawn sleigh. This experience will certainly remain one of the special memories of your holiday.

What would a winter holiday be without tobogganing?

When we look at the world through children's eyes, we become lighter. We can do this by allowing ourselves to be lulled by the Swiss stone pine porch swings on the balconies of our ski hotel or by whizzing exultantly through the snow on our sleds.

What beauty! Around Racines there are numerous toboggan runs, with rental service, that make this winter fun possible. From a family-friendly downhill run of a few hundred metres to a high-speed track, there is something for all levels - and for all childhood memories. Are you wondering whether South Tyrol has a few tricks up its sleeve in this area too? Of course it does! Try getting on a sled in the evening and going down in the light of the full moon or on a partially lit slope: the atmosphere will be very special, guaranteed!

Tip: on Monte Cavallo in Vipiteno, there is a 9.6 km long natural toboggan run, farther away from the ski lifts.
