Just another sustainable hotel among many in South Tyrol?

Sustainability? Some just talk about it, others put it into practice and organise their lives according to the cycles of nature.

We could limit ourselves to saying that the Naturhotel Rainer should be experienced with all the senses, but we would nevertheless like to give you an overview of some of our sustainability and renewable energy initiatives, because our project has one goal: to minimise annual CO² consumption in order to minimise our environmental impact.

Charging station for electric and hybrid cars

A modern standard: in our underground car park you will find a free charging station for electric cars and plug-in hybrid models. This way you can explore South Tyrol in a relaxed and environmentally friendly way.

Renewable energies

To ensure that our guests have the most sustainable holiday possible, we have installed state-of-the-art systems for generating electricity and heat, as well as for recovering cooling energy.

Photovoltaic system

You expected this, didn't you? Since 2023, our Naturhotel has had a photovoltaic system, the Fronius Smart Meter TS 65A-3. In order to be able to generate energy in an optimal way, we have mounted one third facing east to take advantage of the morning sun and the rest facing south-west. This also allows us to make the most of the afternoon sun. Thus, we generate around 40,000 kwh of electricity with our photovoltaic system.

We then optimised the system in such a way that this electricity can also be used to run the charging station for electric and hybrid cars. And since both single-phase and three-phase charging is possible, you can 'refuel' from as little as 1 kwh.

Biomass plant

The Naturhotel Rainer produces heat with the help of a woodchip heating system. We purchase only regional wood from farmers in the surrounding area or from nearby forests and use it to cover the annual energy needs for heating the premises and the swimming pool equipped with salt treatment system, as well as for hot water production.

In concrete terms, we save 40,000 litres of heating oil per year, which corresponds to about 120 tonnes of CO² emissions.

Combined heat and power plant with exhaust gas heat exchanger

The plant, built by us, produces electricity and heat in compliance with the lowest possible emission limits. It is fuelled exclusively with renewable biomass from the EU.

In addition to our hotel, the plant also supplies the village centre in Val di Giovo with heat, while the electricity produced is fed into the grid as bioelectricity.

Val di Giovo has actually been using renewable energy sources for a long time now, having two hydroelectric power stations, which as a sustainable hotel we also use, drawing almost 100% of our electricity needs from them.

Recovery of cooling energy

Alle Motoren unserer Kühlanlagen sind mit einem Durchlaufkühler ausgestattet. Das bedeutet: Sie werden mit kaltem Wasser gekühlt und das daraus produzierte Warmwasser fließt in All motors in our cooling systems are equipped with a continuous flow cooler. This means that they are cooled with cold water and the hot water produced flows back into the whirlpool. This saves energy and the fans only run occasionally instead of continuously.

Further measures for your sustainable holiday in South Tyrol

The lighting switches on at dusk and is timed.
Heating systems can be regulated in terms of time and per floor.
A special system optimises electrical voltage and consumption peaks.
In the showers we use water flow controllers and in the bathrooms there is a manual flush shut-off command.
Our outdoor pool can be emptied when not in use to save valuable resources.

Our natural cosmetics made from natural ingredients

In addition to our own health, we must also take care of the well-being of our planet. That is why we only use carefully hand-picked and processed natural ingredients and 100% natural essential oils for our cosmetic products. We collect the alpine rose with much love and passion on our alpine pasture. Dedicated to all environmentally-conscious guests who want to treat themselves to an extra dose of self-care.

Salt electrolysis in our wellness area

With our salt treatment system, we place a biological accent on the water world. Similar to the marine ecosystem, but with 8 times less salt than seawater, salt electrolysis ensures disinfection of bathing water and thus prevents algae growth. The fresh, crystal-clear and slightly salty water ensures good skin hydration and prevents eye irritation.
